Two machines next to each other, on the same subnet, with the same internet access profile and even in the same OU with exactly the same group policy, one gets presence, one does not. Our issue is that there literally is no presence "bubble" showing at all, not the fact that the status is incorrect. It has to be a client side config thing. What OS? My first thought would be to make some gpo registry edits to turn presence sensing on. We think we may have found the issue.
We were installing it from a network share and have found that it doesnt create the registry entries correctly.
If we cfopy locally and install as an admin, it works perfectly and creates the required entries successfully. We have tested on 4 so far and it seems to be the issue. We seemed to have success copying it locally, running as admin, then making sure the "Register teams as the chat app for office" was set in the settings on Teams.

Outlook did not open the skype windows when I wanted to chat with somebody in my address book. Editing the registry was the solution for me as Jabber was set as the default application. It is a pity that you have to edit your registry to change that as it took some time to find this solution. I changed it to 2 and had correct presence in Skype for about 3 seconds. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! This exactly is what I needed. You are commenting using your WordPress.

This user, when she starts a new email types in the names of the recipients, they appear after a couple of characters as they are cached and internal addresses. To the left of each name now appears a colored ball; red, green or gray. Hover the mouse over the name and the contact information pops up and has a similar colored band to the left of the picture which appears to indicate availability but it doesn't work based on what's on their calendars.
I tried duplicating this functionality on another box but the colored ball, or the band, never appears. So I'm guessing that this user turned something on but I have no idea what. Do they use Lync or Office Communicator by chance? This sounds like a add-in. Check for any conferencing add-ins. Thanks for the suggestion Bill.

It sounds like you're describing the 'Presence' indicator I believe, and you should be able to configure it here:.
I checked this option on a couple of machines and it is checked, but grayed out. And the machine that has this checked does not show the symbol by the name in the To field of an email.
I've still to check the one that is showing this indicator. Hopefully there will be something there that can help you get to the bottom of your particular situation. Any of the computer where the Display online status next to name was checked and grayed out could not see presence in Outlook regardless of Outlook version.
Even used system restore for a user where the box was grayed out and could not see presence and restored to 1 week ago and the box was now NOT grayed out and could see presence. Windows 7 Lync If you have recently made the switch from Skype to Teams Only mode in Officeyou may have lost your presence data in Outlook. Skype and Teams share their presence data with Outlook.
How to uncheck the "Display Online Status next to name" in Outlook 2010?
When viewing or composing an email in Outlook you can also see the presence of anyone internal in your organization and any external users you have federated presence data with. That presence date will look like the screenshot below.
In the example above, I have a green checkmark which identifies my presence as available. This could also be yellow to show away, red to show busy and, other presences such as do-not-disturb, out of office, or, unknown.
This presence data can show up in other Office applications as well, such as Microsoft Word when co-authoring a document in real-time. If you have recently switched to Teams-Only mode and there is no presence circle at all, then you may need to reconfigure your Teams client to share presence data. Below is an example of what that will look like. Note: Presence data will also be missing if your Microsoft Teams client is not running.
To remedy the issue, launch Microsoft Teams. In the top-right click your profile picture or initials and click Settings from the menu. From the Settings screen click the General tab. The settings on this page are saved automatically. Close the Settings screen by clicking the X in the top right.
